The
George Mason softball team was swept in the first two games of a three game
series against James Madison Saturday.
They lost the first game 1-7 and the second game by a score of 3-7,
dropping their record to 10-15 overall and 1-4 in the CAA. Madison's record currently sits at 22-10 and
4-1 in the CAA. This ensures a series
loss to the Dukes with the final game being played tomorrow.
In
the first game, Mason managed just four hits against Madison starter, McPherson,
but did record five walks. Their only
run came in the seventh inning when Kaila Conlon started off with a single up
the middle. She moved to second off of a
Miranda Cranford sacrifice bunt and moved to third after Tori Dudley grounded
out. Conlon scored when Megan Blank hit
an RBI single to shortstop, but the inning ended after Rachael Davies flew out
to right field.
Blank,
Davies, Conlon and Katie Rynex all recorded singles. Walks were recorded by Dudley, Davies, Emily
Lafferty, Reagan Doiron, and Conlon.
Kelsey
Byrd received the loss for the Patriots after lasting just 1.1 innings giving
up seven hits, six runs (all earned), a walk and no strike outs. Stephanie Maher finished the final 4.2
innings giving up five hits, an unearned run, and two walks while striking out
two batters.
Mason
scored three runs in the second game and they all came in the seventh inning as
well. All three runs came off of the bat
of Rachael Davies who hit a three-run home run scoring Dudley and Blank who had
just walked and singled respectively. The
inning continued with a single by Lafferty, a hit by pitch by Doiron and a
Conlon walk that would load the bases with just one out. Rynex stepped to the
plate as the tying run but lined into a double play to end the game.
Davies
finished the game 1-for-4 with the home run, three RBI and a run scored. Dudley was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two
walks. Blank, Lafferty, and Doiron each
recorded a single.
Miranda
Cranford started for Mason pitching 4.1 innings, allowing eight hits, seven
runs (five earned), and three walks. She
struck out one batter and received the loss.
Kelsey Byrd finished the final 1.2 innings giving up two hits and
striking out one batter.
The
Patriots will finish up the series with Madison Sunday with one game scheduled
to be played at noon.
