Chris Carrington
, a sophomore track and field athlete, and
Ashley Danner
, a junior member of the women's swimming and diving team, were
each named All-Americans in the month of March and for their accomplishments,
they were named George Mason Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Month,
respectively.
Carrington, a native of Monticello, N.Y., finished sixth in
the 800 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with a time of
1:50.03. He qualified for the NCAA meet after posting the fourth-best time in
the nation during the indoor season. Carrington became the first individual
All-American since 2007 when Ryan McCoy was named an All-American in the triple
jump.
Danner, a native of Springfield, Va., was a two-time
All-American as she finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh in
the 200-yard breaststroke. Danner was an All-American in both events last year
as well. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Danner recorded a time of 59.23. In the
200-yard breaststroke, finished in 2:08.52.
This is the first time Carrington has won the George Mason
Student-Athlete of the Month award. For Danner, it's a school-record seventh
time she's won the award.
