The George Mason women's tennis team wrapped up a
weekend
CAA
road trip Sunday, falling to the Delaware Blue Hens
6-1.
Despite the disparity in the score,
head coach Stephen Curtis
did not see it that way.
“I thought my girls played
well,” he said.
“
Delaware
was just too tough.”
The Patriots were coming off
a grueling and emotional loss to Drexel Saturday in
Philadelphia
and came out fighting in doubles.
However,
Delaware
won all three matches to earn the doubles point
despite all three Mason pairings winning at least five games.
Delaware
kept the pressure on in singles, as they took five of
six of the matches.
Sophomore Kiersten Pappas
, who had a lengthy and grinding match Saturday, was forced to retire due
to a nagging injury.
Junior Brooke
Blackwell
notched the first set, but could not hold on as Olivia Heim stormed
back and was able to win 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.
Freshman Ashley Delaney
was
the lone Patriot to win in singles.
The
win gives Delaney 18 on the season, as she is challenging Blackwell and
sophomore Alison Wingo
for the team lead, as they have collected 19 and 20 wins
respectively.
The loss drops the Patriots
to 18-13 overall on the year.
The team
will hold it's Senior Day this coming Saturday at
10 a.m.
at the
RAC
Tennis Courts.
Seniors Lindsay
Gray
, Aryn Christman
, and Stephanie Longueira
will be honored before the match.
