Philadelphia, Pa.
—The George Mason women's tennis fell to the Drexel Dragons in a CAA clash Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-3.
Drexel secured the doubles point as senior captain
Lindsay Gray
and
Kiersten Pappas
suffered a rare defeat along with
Brooke Blackwell
and
Alison Wingo
falling in a close match 8-6. However, despite the doubles point being decided, freshmen
Yasmin Fotovat
and
Ashley Delaney
were not going to be denied as they battled back to win their match 9-8.
Delaney carried her phenomenal play over into singles play by winning her match with identical set winning scores of 6-3, 6-3. Blackwell rebounded from the doubles loss and from falling behind in her singles match to prevail with a 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 victory. Finally, Gray struggled in her first set, but was resilient, forcing her opponent to make a lot of mistakes and ultimately fatigue her opponent as well, by winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The loss drops the team to 18-12 overall on the season. The team will look to rebound against Delaware Sunday in CAA action.
