Fairfax, Va. -
The George Mason
softball team lost the series finale Sunday 4-2 against Delaware. The loss drops their season record to 10-12
and 1-2 in conference play. Delaware's
record improved to 9-18 and 2-1 in the conference.
Delaware
used a four run second inning to take a 4-0 lead that would never leave. All four runs were unearned. After a strikeout and a walk there was a
fielding error by Samantha Barney
that allowed a runner on second and
third. The bases were loaded after
another walk and a ground out to short stop scored the first run. A double with runners on second and third led
to two runs and another single added the fourth run of the inning.
Mason
tried to mount a comeback when Reagan Doiron
started the sixth inning with a
single to left field. Emily Lafferty
followed that with a home run that was blasted over the left field wall
bringing the score to 4-2, but the Patriots were unable to score again.
Miranda
Cranford started the game lasting just 2.1 innings giving up five hits, four
runs (all unearned), and two walks and striking out two batters. Stephanie Maher
came in for her in relief and
pitched 3.2 innings allowing five hits and striking out three batters. Kelsey Byrd
pitched the final inning giving
up one hit.
Doiron
had two of Mason's five hits going 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Lafferty finished 1-for-2 with a home run,
two RBI and a run scored. Tori Dudley
and Megan Blank
each also recorded hits.
Mason
will host Georgetown on Wednesday, March 30 in a doubleheader. These are non conference games that are
scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm.
