The George Mason track and field teams concluded the weekend
on Saturday as the men's and women's squads competed at the Raleigh Relays at
N.C. State and at the Hardy Invitational at Richmond. All-American Chris
Carrington had an excellent start to his outdoor season and the men's
4X400-meter relay team had a strong showing as well as each took home
first-place finishes.
The relay squad ran a 3:10.57, just shy of the NCAA Regional
Qualifying time of 3:10.00. Carrington, meanwhile, ran the 1500 meters in
3:50.67, about a second off his personal best. Also at the Raleigh Relays, the
men's 4X200 team was second in 1:25.35, while Tyler Golden and Michael Pachella
were seventh and 11th
respectively in the 800 meters with times of
1:52.91 and 1:53.60. The only event in which Mason competed on the women's side
at the Raleigh Relays was in the 4X200 where the Patriots finished fifth in
1:39.23.
At the Hardy Invitational, Amanda Denger
had a fifth-place
finish in the javelin with a throw of 35.37. Meanwhile, Meredith Oare
and
Kailyn Newman were 10th
and 12th
, respectively, in the
discus with tosses of 33.89 and 32.71. On the men's side, three Patriots
competed in the discus. Kirk Nguyen
was eighth with a throw of 41.25, Shaz
Usman was ninth with a toss of 40.41, and Michael Foley
was 16th
with a hurl of 34.15.
The track and field teams will return to action next weekend
when they compete at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary and the Florida
Relays at the University of Florida.
