The George Mason track and field teams competed in the
Raleigh Relays at N.C. State and at the Fred Hardy Invitational at Richmond on
Saturday and for one freshman it was a memorable day as
Daianna Barron
qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Championships in the 400 meters.
Barron finished ninth in the event with a time of 55.94. She
was one of several Patriots with a top-10 finish at the Raleigh Relays. Crystal
Clark finished sixth in the prelims of the 100 meters with a time of 12.15 and
will compete in the finals on Saturday.
Nao Ma
was ninth in the 5000 meters
with a time of 17:41.79. On the men's side, the sprint medley relay team of
Ja-Vell Bullard
, Adrian Vaughn
,
Kevin Wilson
and
Chris Carrington
was
first with a time of 3:18.31 and Wilson was 10th
in the 400 meters
with a time of 48.60.
Travaughn Baker-Johnson
will compete in the finals of the
100 meters on Saturday as well after posting a time of 10.94, 14th
-best
in the prelims.
At the Hardy Invitational, a slew of Patriots had top five
finishes.
Dominique Graham
and Taren Henry were second and fifth, respectively
in the high jump with leaps of 1.60 and 1.50 meters,
Colleen McGlade
was second
in the pole vault and
Kelsey Hinz
was fourth, both clearing heights of 3.25
meters, and
Amanda Denger
was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of
1:06.16. On the men's side, Wes Sun was third in the pole vault clearing 4.60
meters while Jason Wellington
was fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of
43.91.
Among the Patriots to watch on Saturday at the Raleigh
Relays, in addition to Clark and Baker-Johnson in the 100 and 200, are Chris
Carrington in the men's 1500 meters, and
Michael Pachella
and Tyler Golden in
the 800 meters,
