Fairfax, Va. —The George Mason women's tennis team opened their first spring weekend at home with a dominant 6-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's.

The Patriots swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and then won five of six singles matches to secure the victory.

Brooke Blackwell was superb in her singles match, winning by a score of 6-2, 6-0.  Blackwell forced her opponent into many difficult positions, drawing many errant shots in order to get the victory.  She now has 15 wins on the season.

Freshman Ashley Delaney continues her strong rookie campaign as she notched her 12th win of the season.  Delaney also teamed with Blackwell to earn a doubles win from the third position.

Senior Aryn Christman trailed throughout her first set, but was resilient and fought back to win the set and then cruised in the second set to earn the victory.

The two most competitive matches involved sophomores Kiersten Pappas and Alison Wingo .  Pappas, who's been battling injury, went toe to toe with the Mount's Emily Bolcholz.  Using a daunting forehand, and changing pace with a brilliant drop shot, Pappas was able to prevail in a tiebreaker.  Wingo also won her match in a tiebreaker.  After two close sets, Wingo wore out her opponent, Kelly Conroy, and defeated her convincingly in the tiebreaker 10-3.  Wingo now has a team-high 17 singles wins.

The Dynamic Duo of Pappas and partner Lindsay Gray were at it again, as they took their match 8-5.  Freshman Yasmin Fotovat teamed up with Wingo for the final doubles victory.  Fotovat showed a tremendous presence in the front court and along the net while Wingo patrolled the back.

The win puts the team's overall record at 15-9.  Tomorrow's match against Bucknell has been cancelled due to poor weather predictions.  The team will take on Colgate Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the RAC tennis courts.
