After opening the season with eight games on the road,
the George Mason lacrosse team opens its home slate Wednesday night playing host
to American University. The game has also been
designated the Under Armour Power in Pink game in support of breast cancer
awareness. Mason is coming off a double overtime thriller at Columbia to end the road swing with a
victory. Trailing by a two-goal deficit, the Patriots posted a late rally
against the Lions to even the score in regulation and force overtime. After a
scoreless overtime period, the teams entered a sudden-victory situation as
freshman Anna Kopecka scored the game's winning goal for Mason in double
overtime. Kopecka was recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association for her
performance this past week as the CAA Lacrosse Rookie of the Week. American is
coming off a 15-12 loss to Colgate in its Patriot League road opener. The
Eagles were on a three-game winning streak entering the matchup. American is
led by Kimberly Collins and Samantha Marshall.
