The George Mason
softball team finished the Cherry Blossom Classic up with a 6-0 loss to Howard
Sunday. This concluded their weekend
with a 2-2 record in the tournament and dropped their record to 9-9 overall for
the season.
Howard
jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning with a bases loaded error
committed by the Patriots. The Bison
would make it 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning off of a walk, a triple and a
sacrifice fly to left.
Howard
would all but put the game away in the sixth inning when they scored three runs
off of two hits and two costly errors making the score 6-0.
Kelsey
Byrd started for Mason today and pitched 5.1 innings allowing six hits, four runs
(two earned), and walked two while striking out two. Stephanie Maher
came in to finish the game
pitching the final 1.2 innings, allowing two hits, two runs (zero earned) and one
walk. She also struck out one batter.
Howard
starter, Carly Martin, pitched a complete game allowing six hits and four
walks, while striking out three Patriots.
Reagan
Doiron had two of Mason's six hits finishing the game 2-for-3. Lauren McColgan
, Megan Blank
and Tiffany Webb
each recorded singles and Rachael Davies
had a double.
Mason
will play again this Tuesday, March 22, when they host Utah in a
doubleheader. The first game is
scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
