Mason erupted in the second half to roll past George Washington 17-9 for its
first victory of the season Wednesday afternoon at Mount Vernon Field. The
Patriots outscored the Colonials 10-5 in the second half and were led by Mary
Schwartz
, Madalyn Jamison
and Caitlin Formato
with three goals apiece,
improving Mason to 1-3 on the season.
Jamison and Schwartz led the Patriots with three goals and
an assist each. Mason held a narrow 30-29 advantage in shots as goalkeeper Brittany
Pastrana
finished with 16 saves in 53:23 minutes of action. Katie Teague

her first action in cage working 6:37 minutes.
GW goalkeeper Liz Hoffman played all 60 minutes, recording eight saves. Three

Mason raced out to a 4-0 lead with two goals from Formato
before the Colonials (1-4) drew the score to 4-3 using a 3-0 spurt. Mason
answered with a trio of unanswered goals of its own, two from Schwartz, for a
6-3 advantage. After seven minutes of scoreless action from both teams that followed,
Audrey Joy recorded the final goal of the half for George Washington as Mason
led 7-4 at the break.
The Colonials opened the final frame drawing the score to
7-6 with goals from Mia Breheny and Nicole Lacey before the Patriots regrouped
and responded with eight consecutive goals over the next 12 minutes to pull
away with a comfortable 15-6 advantage. Six different Patriots scored in the
run with Emily Ellisen
