The George Mason
softball team finished day two of the Cherry Blossom Classic losing to Cornell
in a 5-0 shutout. It was their only game
of the day and it dropped their record to 9-8.
The
game was a pitcher's duel all the way until the bottom of the fifth inning when
Cornell broke the tie with two runs. Two
errors in the inning let the Big Red score two unearned runs off of Miranda
Cranford. Cornell would pad their lead
by three run in the sixth inning pounding out four hits.
The
Patriots managed just four hits against Cornell pitchers as Jenna Stoller
pitched five innings, allowing two hits, six walks and striking out two
batters. Stoller picked up the win and
Elizabeth Dalrymple came in to earn the save striking out three Mason batters
in two innings allowing two hits and no walks.
Alyssa
See went 1-for-2 in the game with a walk and Megan Blank
also had one hit in
two at-bats while recording a walk and a stolen base. Reagan Doiron
and Samantha Barney
each had one
hit. Tori Dudley
had two walks and a
stolen base and Lauren McColgan
also had a walk and a stolen base. Mason left nine runners on base.
Miranda
Cranford started the game and pitched 4.2 innings allowing four hits, two
unearned runs, and a walk while striking out four batters. Cranford received the loss for Mason. Stephanie Maher
came in to finish the game
pitching 1.1 innings giving up four hits three earned runs, and a walk.
Mason
will play Howard in their final game of the Cherry Blossom Classic at 2:30 p.m.
Sunday. The first game is scheduled to
begin at 10:00 a.m. when Monmouth and Albany take the field against each other,
followed by Cornell and Howard at 12:15 p.m.
