Taleia Moton, a redshirt junior women's basketball player,
and Ryan Pearson, a junior men's basketball player, each had stellar
performances during the month of February and for their performances on the
court, they were named George Mason Female and Male Athletes of the Month.
Moton led the women's team to a No. 8 seed in the CAA women's
basketball tournament, the first time in five years the Patriots have faced a
lower-seeded opponent at the tournament. Moton averaged 14.0 points per game, 3.1
assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals while averaging 31.0 minutes per game.
Pearson helped the Patriots to a perfect 8-0 record in
February as Mason picked up the No. 1 seed in the CAA Tournament for the first
time in 11 years. He led the team in scoring and rebounding in the month,
averaging a double-double with 16.4 points and 10.0 rebounds. He shot 52.3
percent from the field as Mason put together the nation's longest winning
streak and earned an in-season national ranking for just the second time in
school history.
This is the first time Moton has won the award and the
second time Pearson has claimed the honor.
