Annapolis, Md.--The George Mason Women's Tennis Team went 1-1 on Sunday as they travelled to the Naval Academy. The Patriots defeated Longwood 5-2 in their morning match and fell to Navy 4-1 in their afternoon match.

"I was very proud of how we competed.  We played tough and fought hard in tight matches," commented Coach Curtis.

Mason won two of the three doubles matches to secure the openning doubles point.  Kiersten Pappas and Lindsay Gray continue to show their outstanding chemistry as a doubles team, handedly defeating Longwood's Zsofia Jakab and Marta Pinyol by a score of 8-2.  Alison Wingo and Yasmin Fotovat combined for the other doubles win, defeating Allison Shullman and Bethany Law by a score of 8-6.

In singles play, the Patriots found themselves in a battle as five of the six matches went to third set tie-breakers. Mason persevered though and prevailed with wins in four of the five matches.  Lindsay Gray, Brooke Blackwell, and Aryn Christman all notched their first singles wins of the spring season, while Alison Wingo won her second.

Despite a fine effort, Navy thwarted Mason in the afternoon match, winning by a score of 4-1 in a 3-2 format.  Despite some tough losses, the team caught a glimpse of what could be a future doubles tandem as freshmen Ashley Delaney and Yasmin Fotovat defeated Navy's Haley Adams and Dye Das by a score of 6-1, 6-4.

The team moves to 7-5 on the year.  Mason will be in action next weekend as they travel to Mary Washington for a 10am match and then head to Montclair Country Club to host St. Francis (Pa) at 4pm.
