Dumfries, Va.—The George Mason Women's Tennis team opened their spring season Saturday afternoon at Montclair Country Club against George Washington University, losing 7-0.
Alison Wingo and Yasmin Fotovat had the lone win for Mason on the day, an 8-6 doubles victory against George Washington's Isabella Escobar and Leah Pascarella.
Wingo also turned in a strong effort in singles play by forcing Pascarella to win a seventh game in both sets.
Also turning in a strong singles performance was
Brooke Blackwell. Blackwell struggled in the first set, losing 6-1 to George Washington's Mimi Hamling, but pushed Hamling to the brink in the second set, but Hamling prevailed 7-6.
The loss drops Mason to 6-4 overall on the season, while George Washington improves to 6-2. Mason will look to regroup as they take on Navy Sunday at 10 a.m.
