Mason held Virginia Tech to four goals in the second half, but could not
overcome a first-half deficit, falling to the Hokies 15-7 Saturday afternoon at
Thompson Field. Mason falls to 0-3 on the season, while Virginia Tech improved
to 4-0.
Senior Chelsea Gamble
led the Patriot offense with three
goals in the contest. Madalyn Jamison

, Mary Schwartz
and Anna
Kopecka each added a goal for the Patriots. Brittany Pastrana
played the full
60 minutes in cage, collecting 15 saves.
Morgan Wildlake controlled the offensive pace for the
Hokies, recording a career-high seven goals. Goalkeeper Alex Gale recorded only
seven saves for Virginia Tech. The Hokies outshot the Patriots 34-16.
Four different Patriots scored for Mason in the first half
as Virginia Tech took an 11-4 lead at halftime. The Hokies quickly took a 6-2
lead with four goals from Wildlake before Mason responded with goals from Jamison
and Schwartz, cutting the score to 6-4 with just over nine minutes left in the
first half. But Virginia Tech gained control of the game posting the next five
consecutive goals for the halftime score.
Gamble opened the second half scoring 50 seconds into the
frame and again on a free position kick at the 26:31 mark for an 11-6 Hokie
lead. Freshman Kopecka scored Mason's final goal of the game coming at 19:50
before Virginia Tech recorded the final three goals over the last 19 minutes of
the contest to account for the 15-7 score.
