The George Mason wrestling team faced
the University of Virginia tonight in their final home match of the
season. The Cavaliers came away with a 38-7 win over the Patriots.
Mason had two total victories and recorded a major decision while Virginia
recorded a two falls and a technical fall. Mason was forced to forfeit in
the 125 and 133 pound classes.
A forfeit in the 125 pound weight class left Mason with a 0-6 deficit to begin
the match. After this, John Delgado was forced to take a medical forfeit
in the 133 when he was unable to continuing wrestling in the second
period. Down 0-12, Denny Herndon gave Mason a major decision when he
defeated Dave Ebbott 15-6.
With the score at 4-12, in favor of the Cavaliers, the Patriots would drop the
next two matchups. Brandon Bucher was pinned by Derek Valenti with just four
seconds left in the match and Jaaziah Bethea lost a 7-2 decision to Shawn
Harris.
In the next two matchups, Aaron Keeton was defeated by Jedd Moore by a decision
of 5-4 and Greg Scott lost to Chris Henrich, who is ranked number four in the
nation, by a 20-5 technical fall in the second period.
Tovuujav would end Masons' losing streak with a 6-1 decision over William
Coggins, bringing the score back up to 7-29. The score would not get any
closer as Jimmy Webb lost a 7-2 decision against Stephen Doty and Hunter
Manspile was pinned by Jack Danikowicz in a time of 1:14.
Mason's last match of the regular season will be on Sunday, February 20, when
they travel to Maryland to take on the Terps. That match is set to begin
at 1:00 pm.
