The Patriots (1-3) blanked St. Francis 7-0 today for their first win of the spring season. It was the team's first home match of the spring season played nearby at Monclair Country Club in Dumfries, Va.
George Mason won the doubles point after winning two closely contested matches at the top two positions, wining both 8-6. The Patriots top team of Jorge Osuna and Taylor Sargent defeated the team of Pogue and Flemming and Kevin McMillen and Chris Borden defeated Medes/Natchev. Steve Hyre and Michael Phaup easily won their match, 8-2 for the Patriots.
There were some closely contested matches at for of the six singles matches, but Mason found the edge, winning all six. Freshman Sargent won his match at #4 by a close margin, 7-5, 7-5. The only match to go the distance was at #6 singles where Mason's Sam Coster lost the first set 7-5, but rallied winning both the second 6-1 and the third 6-2.
Mason returns to action Sunday at Mary Washington at Noon.
