--The Mason women's
tennis team had a successful Saturday by defeating Mary Washington
University 5-2 in their morning match, and then defeating St. Francis
(PA) 7-0 in the afternoon.
"It
was a long but rewarding day in which everyone on the team contributed
to our victories," said Coach Curtis. "I was very pleased with the
team's performance today."
The Patriots opened against
the Eagles by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the doubles
point.
Kiersten Pappas and
Lindsay Gray continue their doubles dominance, winning both doubles matches today. Freshmen tandem Yasmin Fotovat and
Ashley Delaney won together in the morning and then won on separate teams in the afternoon. Mason then took 4 of the 6 singles with
Kiersten Pappas, Alison
Wingo,
Ashley Delaney and Yasmin Fotovat all winning their singles
matches.
Mason then traveled
to Montclair Country Club to host St. Francis. The Patriots overwhelmed the Red Flash, sweeping all three doubles and
all six singles matches convincingly. Pappas, Gray, Wingo, Delaney, Blackwell, and Longuiera all notched singles wins. Freshman Ekaterina "Kate" Desiatnikova contributed to a doubles win with Delaney.
The Patriots
move to 9-5 on the season. The team returns to action next weekend as
they host UNCW at 7 p.m. at Burke Swim & Racquet Club on Saturday,
and then host Hofstra at 11 a.m. at Montclair Country Club
on Sunday.
