Seniors Ashley Danner, Preston Wolter and Austin Witherow will
each swim in four events at the US National Championships, beginning Thursday, December
1st and ending Saturday, December 3rd. The event will be hosted by Georgia Tech
University and will feature some of the best collegiate swimmers throughout the
country.
Danner will race in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard
breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley. Danner has been Mason's most consistent
female swimmer this season, winning every 100-yard breaststroke event which she
has competed in this season. Last year
in this competition Danner finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke, seventh
in the 200-yard breaststroke and 12th in the 200-yard individual
medley.
Wolter will compete in 400-yard freestyle, 1500-yard freestyle,
400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly. Wolter is also having an impressive senior
campaign and is most recently coming off victories in the 400-yard freestyle
and the 400-yard freestyle relay in the Patriot Invitational.
Mason's winning 400-yard freestyle relay team also included
Witherow (who will race in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard
butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke), as well as fellow NCAA Championship qualifier,
junior David Kiss.
Kiss and sophomore Fernando Rubio are the two non-seniors
for Mason who will compete this weekend.
Kiss will race in the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard
individual medley, while Rubio will compete in 200-yard and 400-yard individual
medley.
The week will include 26 total events and is scheduled to
begin on Thursday with the 400-yard freestyle and conclude on Saturday with the
200-yard butterfly. Preliminary heats
are scheduled to begin at 9am each day, with the finals of each day's events
beginning at 6pm.
