events have concluded at the end of day two at the 2011 Patriot Invitational
and Mason is in contention to win both the men's and women's divisions. The men are currently second overall
behind UMBC and the women are third, just behind UMBC and UNCW respectively.
Seniors Derrick Butts and Preston Wolter led the men on day
two. Butts won the 3-meter dive
and set a meet record with his score of 372.20. Yesterday Butts won the 1-meter dive, giving him a sweep of
the male diving competitions in his fifth consecutive meet. Wolter finished in first place in
the 400-yard IM with his time of 3:56.25.
Senior Ali-Marie Murphy completed her sweep of the female
diving competitions today as well. After winning the 3-meter dive yesterday,
Murphy won the 1-meter dive today with a score of 224.85. Fellow senior swimmer Ashley Danner won
the 100-yard breaststroke with her meet record setting time of 1.00.80. Danner has now won the 100 breast in
every competition she has participated in this season. The women were also helped this evening
by freshman Julianne Phillips who came away with a victory in the 200-yard
freestyle and a time of 1:50.58.
Tomorrow will be the final day of
the Patriot Invitational. The meet
will begin with the preliminary round at 10am and conclude with the finals at
