FAIRFAX, Va. -Thursday
night concluded the first day of events in the Patriot Invitational for men's
and women's swimming and diving.
After the first day of the events, the men are currently in second
place, with the women currently in third out of eight teams competing in both
divisions.
Today's events included the men's 1-meter dive, women's
3-meter dive, 200-yard freestyle relay, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM,
50-yard freestyle and the 400-yard medley relay.
Mason was led once again by senior diver Derrick Butts, who
won the 1-meter dive with a score of 358.60. Butts also set a meet record in the preliminary round with a
score of 362.15. Fellow senior
diver Ali-Marie Murphy won the 3-meter dive for the women with her score of
222.85.
The Patriots were also victorious in the women's 400-yard
medley relay, winning with a time of 3:47.27 and racing a team of sophomore
Paige Impink, senior Ashley Danner, sophomore Anna Ratana and freshman Julianne
Phillips.
The Patriot Invitational will continue Friday and Saturday
beginning with the preliminary round at 10am and concluding with the finals,
which begin at 6pm on both days.
