BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - For the second consecutive Open
competition of the season, redshirt senior co-captain Frankie McLaughlin IV has
placed in the top 5 overall in the 174 pound weight class. McLaughlin finished 3rd overall in
the Binghamton Open on Sunday with an overall record of 5-1 in competition for
the day.
125 pound freshman Vincent Rodriguez also placed this
afternoon, finishing 4th overall with a 3-2 record. Fellow freshman Mike Bakuckas also placed 4th
overall for Mason in the 149 pound weight class with a 5-2 record in competition.
After two consecutive days of competition, Mason is already
showing signs of being an improved team.
The Patriots were able to place two more wrestlers in the top 5 of their
weight class than they did in the first open match of the season.
"It is really great to see the guys get better each week," said Assistant Coach Tommy Owen. "Even some of the guys who didn't place, everyone wrestled a lot better, I am really excited about their improvement. We are definitely getting better as a team."
Mason will compete again next Saturday at 10am at the Navy
Classic in Annapolis, Md.
