PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The George Mason rowing team concluded its
fall schedule racing seven boats in the Frostbite Regatta on the Schuylkill
River in Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday. The Patriots claimed third-place
finishes in the varsity 4 and varsity 8.
The novice four opened racing for the Patriots claiming a
fourth-place finish after crossing in 09:38.43. Mason finished behind
first-place Lafayette, Stony Brook and CW Post.
The Patriots raced two boats in the novice eight posting fifth
and fourth place finishes, respectively. In the first race, Mason took fifth with
a time of 08:40.78, while the B boat took fourth in 09:22.49.
In the next event, the Patriots put two boats in the varsity 4. In
the first race, Mason crossed in 08:46.83 to claim third place, and finished the
event with another third-place finish with a time of 08:38.62. West Virginia
took first in both races.
The final event for the Patriots was the varsity 8 in which two
boats represented Mason. The Patriots earned third-place finishes in both races
with times of 07:35.20 and 07:00.00, respectively. Drexel took first in both
with times of 07:10.33 and 06:55.30, respectively.
"The girls raced well," commented head coach Geoff Dillard. "We
did not spend a lot of time training for a 2000m race, we just wanted to
compete, and we did that.
"We have a lot of work ahead of us to get ready for the spring
season," continued Dillard. "We have a good group of student-athletes that work
hard and have a great attitude, so I know they will do what it takes to be successful
come spring time."
