Baltimore, Md. - Men's swimming and diving took on Loyola University Maryland
and the Naval Academy on Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland at the Mangione Pool in the Fitness & Aquatics Center on Loyola's
campus.
Mason finished with a 1-1 record
in the event, beating Loyola by a score of 172.00 - 128.00, while falling to
Navy 162.00-124.00.
The standout of the afternoon was
senior Derrick Butts, who set a pool record score of 343.05 with his first
place finish in the 1-meter dive. Butts
also finished first in the 3-meter diving, scoring 346.70 total points.
Junior David Kiss
and sophomore Fernando Rubio also had first place finished in the meet, winning
the 100 Yard Butterfly (51.51) and the 200 Yard IM (1:56.17) respectively.
Mason was able to
end the meet on a high note by taking the top two spots in the 400 Yard
Freestyle Relay, the meet's final race.
Mason's winning team, swam by junior Austin Witherow, sophomore Joey Kelly, freshman Travis Lauri and senior Preston Wolter, finished with a time of
3:13.46. Junior Adam Carter, freshman
John McKenzie, junior David Baldino and junior Cole Jamison took second place in
the race, finishing with a time of 3:17.15.
Mason's men's and
women's swimming and diving will compete again on Saturday, October 15th
against Delaware at 1pm, marking their first conference meet, as well as their
first home meet of the season.
