Philadelphia, Pa.--The George Mason golf team completed its first day tied for 15th at the Big 5 Golf Invitational at the 6,570, par-70 Plymouth Country Club.
The Patriots had a total score of 304, and only a seven-stroke gap separates them from a top five finish.
Bryan Giles had the best individual day, shooting a one-over 71, tied for sixth place. Giles finished with three birdies, 11 pars, and four bogies.
Josh Apple had the next best score for the Patriots, finishing with a five-over 75. Other Mason scores include
Alec Kormanec and
Kevin Yerks ending with a nine-over 79, and
Casey Thompson with an 11-over 81.
Dartmouth has the overall team lead with a total six-over par score. Local teams the University of Pennsylvania are also in the top five at second and fourth overall respectively.
The Patriots will complete the tournament and look to move up in the standings Sunday.
