Junior midfielder Taylor Morgan and senior middle blocker
Kelsey Bohman have been selected as the George Mason Athletes of the Month for
the month of September. Morgan, a member of the men's soccer team, and Bohman,
a women's volleyball player, were instrumental in leading their teams to
success in the month. It is the first
such honor for both Morgan and Bohman.
Morgan paced the men's soccer team to a 4-1-2 record during
the month of September, which included victories over two ranked opponents.
Morgan scored seven goals and netted all four game-winners. He helped lead the
Patriots to the 2011 D.C. College Cup Title with wins over Howard and American
and was named the Tournament MVP for his performance.
Morgan garnered CAA Men's Soccer Co-Player of the Week
following the title and earned the solo title after Mason tied then-No. 8
Central Florida and handed then-No. 24 Cal State Fullerton its first loss of
the season. Morgan also earned national recognition for the week of September
20 being named to the Soccer America Men's Team of the Week and tabbed the ECAC
Division I Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
As of September 25, Bohman ranked first in the Colonial
Athletic Association and fourth nationally in blocks per set (1.57), as the
Scottsdale, Ariz., product recorded 77 total blocks in the opening month of the
season. Bohman also ranked ninth in the conference in hitting percentage,
swinging .274 with 94 kills during late August and September.
One of four seniors on the squad, Bohman helped lead the
Patriots to a 7-7 record in the first month of the year, including two
conference wins over VCU and William & Mary.
