POWELLS POINT, NC--The Mason Golf team cut nine strokes off their first round score and moved up from 13th into a tie for ninth place after second-round play at the second annual ODU/Outerbanks Collegiate. The Patriots are in a three-way tie with Maryland and Hartford and one stroke behind James Madison going into the final round of the three-round
tournament.
The entire Mason team bested their first round score with Kevin Yerks leading the way with a two-uner par 70 after an even-par 72 first round score at the par
72, 6535 yard Kilmarlic golf course. He is tied for 9th overall. Junior Casey Thompson shot even par today to stand tied for 26th after two rounds with a three-over par 147. Senior Josh Apple is not far behind with a two-round 149 and in 44th place overall.
T.J. Mitchell remains in first place at 10-under par after carding a 70 in the second round. He shot a tournament first round best 64. Liberty is in second place led by
Robert karlsson who carded two sub-par rounds of 67 and 68 just one stroke off leader Mitchell.
