Fairfax, Va.--The George Mason women's tennis team hosted the Women's Fall Invitational at the RAC Tennis Courts this past weekend. Identical to the previous Navy tournament, the tournament format was individual based rather than team based. The team played host to fellow beltway schools George Washington and Georgetown.
"We played with a
depleted team due to injury and illness, but most of the team played hard," said head coach Stephen Curtis.
"I was especially pleased with Ashley Delaney, she played with heart and
determination."
Delaney, a sophomore from Ellicott City, Md., is trying to build off a phenomenal freshman campaign in which she won 18 singles matches. Delaney went 2-1 in both singles and doubles on the weekend, teaming up in doubles with junior Alison Wingo.
Other Patriots to come away with victories on the weekend were junior Kiersten Pappas who is trying to make her way back from injury, and freshman Tori Zalewski, who continues to impress in both doubles and singles play.
The team will next host the Women's Campus Showdown at the RAC Tennis Courts on Sunday October 16.
