LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ. - Cayle
Byers was named one of the CAA's Wrestlers of the Month for the month of
December. He earned this honor along
with Lou Ruggirello (Hofstra, 133 weight class) and James Nicholson (Old
Dominion, 125 weight class).
Byers
has put together a season record of 17-1, with is only loss coming against the
number two nationally ranked wrestler in the Southern Scuffle 197 pound
championship round last week. Cam Simaz
(Cornell) was the wrestler that beat him and he is now ranked the number one
wrestler in the nation in the 197 weight class.
Byers finished second in the Southern Scuffle and followed that up with
a victory in his first home match of the season against UNC Greensboro last
night. He has recorded four major
decision and two falls on the year so far.
Byers
became the highest ranked wrestler Mason has ever had with the release of Amateur Wrestling News' latest
rankings. He is ranked second by them
along with third by The Open Mat and WrestlingReport.com, and fourth by Intermat and WIN.
Byers
and the Patriots will wrestle again next Thursday, January 13th,
when they host Drexel. The match is set
to being at 7 p.m.
