Mason Loses to UNC Greensboro in First Home Match

FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason wrestling hosted its first home match of the season and took a 34-12 loss to UNC Greensboro.  Due to injuries Mason was forced to forfeit in three weight classes but did win four matches.  Cayle Byers, Denny Herndon, Jaaziah Bethea, and Aaron Keeton all posted victories.

In his first match as the number two nationally ranked wrestler in the 197 pound weight class, Cayle Byers won yet again to raise his season record to 17-1.  He defeated Caylor Williams in a 5-2 decision.  Herndon posted a victory in the 141 pound weight class with a 3-1 decision over Michael Crowley.  In the 157 weight class Jaaziah Bethea won a hard fought match over Jonathan Rodebaugh recording a 6-4 decision and Aaron Keeton also recorded a win in a 9-4 decision over Brett Miller.

Brandon Bucher lost to Ivan Lopouchanski (who is ranked #16 on Intermat) in the 149 weight class.  He lost the match in a 10-2 major decision.  Jimmy Kaden and Seth Robertson both lost in falls to Travis Sheehy and Byron Sigmon, respectively. 

Mason will wrestle again when they host the Drexel Dragons next Thursday, January 13th.  The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
