KEY LARGO, Fla.- The George Mason
Swimming teams competed at the Orange Bowl Swimming Classic today and both the
men and women finished in second place.
On the men's side, Michigan was the only other team that participated and on the
women's side the University of Kansas, Florida International, and the
University of Vermont also competed.
For
the women's team Mason scored 87 points which put them ahead of Vermont and FIU
and second behind the University of Kansas.
Ashley Danner posted a first place finish in the 50-meter breaststroke
recording a time of 32.86. She also finished
fifth in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 31.87 and was Mason's top
swimmer in that event.
Other
top finishers included Paige Impink who had a second place finish in the
50-meter freestyle posting a time of 27.39 and also a fourth place finish in
the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:08.75. Jenny Kane finished fourth in the 400-meter
freestyle with a time of 4:31.11.
Danner, Impink, Kane, and Brittany Vocke put together a time of 1:50.23
in the 200-meter freestyle relay, which was good for second place.
On
the men's side Michigan came in first, raking up 372 points, while Mason
recorded 187 points. Austin Witherow was
Mason's top finisher on the day. He placed
fourth in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:01.66 and also came in
fifth in the 50-meter freestyle. Jacob
Baumgardner also posted a fourth place finish with a time of 28.50 in the
50-meter backstroke.
Mason
will swim again when they return home to host Towson on January 15th. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
