The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams
hosted the Patriots Games on Saturday afternoon and each team added qualifiers
for the IC4A and ECAC Championships. Tyler Golden and Everett Hackett each
qualified for the IC4A while the women's 4X400 relay qualified for the ECAC.
Hackett had no trouble qualifying in the 3000m as he was
second in the event with a time of 8:23.30. This is the third straight season
the junior will compete at the Indoor IC4A Championships. Golden managed to
qualify in the 800m by just .07 seconds, finishing in 1:54.83. He won the event
on Saturday. Freshman Adrian Vaughn nearly qualified in the 500m as his time of
1:06.02 was within a second of the standard. He finished third in the event.
Other top finishes for the men's team included David Rushing
and Andrew McGreal, coming in third and fourth respectively in the mile, with
times of 4:16.17 and 4:!7.36, Michael Conway, finishing fifth in the 3000m with
a time of 8:38.61, and Kirk Mguyen finishing third in the weight throw with a
mark of 14.17m.
The women's relay team of Shantel Miles, Taylor Wheaton,
Crystal Clark and Daianna Barron were first with a time of 3:50.91. They joined
the women's DMR and the men's 4X400, 4X800 and DMR as squads that will compete
for championships.
Victoria Samyn nearly qualified in the mile as her time of
5:00.03 was within one second of qualifying. She was second in the event. TaNay
Chandler won the 60m with a time of 7.80, .12 off the qualifying time. Also
with a top-five finish was Taren Henry who was third in the high jump with a
leap of 1.60m.
While the Patriots were hosting a meet, the pole vaulters
and the multi-event athletes were at Liberty competing in a track meet there.
Mandissa Marshall won the women's pole vault, clearing 3.90m. Finishing third
was Kelsey Hinz at 3.45m while Colleen McGlade cleared 3.15m and Jennifer
Stenzel recorded a height of 2.80m. In the men's pole vault, Wesley Sun was third,
clearing 4.80m, which qualified him for the IC4A meet. Patrick Dietrick was fifth with a mark of 4.50m. Josh
Trikakis and Lee Oxenford also competed.
In the women's pentathlon, Amanda Denger was fifth with
3,068 points and Dominique Graham was ninth with 2,765 points. Denger also
competed in the 60m hurdles, finishing seventh, while Graham competed in the
high jump, finishing fifth. In the men's heptathlon, David Wellington was second
with 4,723 points and Gustavo Osorio was fourth with 4,305points. Osorio won
the 1000m heptathlon run.
