A pair of George Mason baseball players earned preseason
All-CAA honors on Tuesday as Shane Davis and Brig Tison were named to the 2011
preseason All-Conference team. Tison was named second-team All-CAA last year
while Davis was third-team. The team was selected by a vote of the league's
head coaches.
Tison, a junior is coming off a season where he hit .367
with three homers, 33 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He was named All-CAA last year
as a utility player and that's the same position to which he was voted to on
the preseason team.
Davis, a senior, was named to the team as a designated
hitter. He was all-CAA as both a sophomore and a junior at that position. Last
year, Davis hit .283 with nine homers and 45 RBI.
Georgia State's Mark Micowski was named the preseason Player
of the Year. The outfielder hit .392 with five homers, 40 RBI and 17 stolen
bases last year. He was one of three Georgia State players selected to the
team. James Madison also had three players selected while VCU joined Mason with
multiple selections. Delaware, Old Dominion and William & Mary each had
single selections.
James Madison was picked to win the conference in a vote of
the league's coaches with four first-place votes and 90 points. Georgia State
was picked second with four first-place votes and 88 points. VCU was third,
with two first-place votes and 84 points while UNC Wilmington was fourth with
83 points and one first-place vote. William & Mary was fifth with 54 points
followed by Mason with 51 points. Old Dominion, Delaware, Towson, Hofstra and
Northeastern round out the preseason predicted order of finish.
