Richmond, Va. - Ashley Danner and Derrick Butts were honored with weekly CAA swimming and diving awards this week. They received this honor with their performances from their meet against Towson on Saturday. Danner won the women's swimming award and Butts won the men's diving award.
Danner is honored with this award for the third time this season and eighth of her career. In her meet against Towson she finished first in all four events she took place in. Along with Lindsay Pierce, Anna Ratana, and Paige Impink, Danner posted a first place with a time of 1:46.94 in the 200-yard medley relay. Danner also placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.30, first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.16 and first in the 200-yard breaststroke recording a time of 2:19.28.
Butts wins this award for the first time this season and third time in his career. In Saturday's meet the junior broke a Mason team record in the 1-meter dive raking up a score of 354.67. He finished first in this event helping the men's team beat Towson 177-89.
Danner, Butts and the rest of the swimming and diving team will compete again this Saturday, January 22 when they host Army, Old Dominion and American. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
