The Patriots split a pair of matches at the Tiger 4-1 Classic on Friday afternoon. Mason opened against UMBC with a 4-1 loss then defeated host Towson 5-0. The tournament is being played in the four singles plus one doubles match-up.
Mason's Ayrn Christman earned the Patriots lone point in the first match against UMBC. In the No. 4 singles position she defeated the Retrievers Josefin Starge-Jonsson in a tie-breaker set, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8. Lindsay Gray lost a tough match to UMBC's Carmen Jackman from the top singles spot, 1-6, 6-7.
In the match against Towson, top singles player Kiersten Pappas defeated the Tigers Andrea Carr, 7-5, 6-3. Mason's Brooke Blackwell defeated Amanda Ocker, 6-2, 6-0, en route to winning her 21st straight singles match. The Patriots doubles team of Yasmin Fotovat and Ashley Delaney won their match 6-4, 7-5.
Mason plays two more matches on Saturday. The Patriots will have an early morning bout with Johns Hopkins at 9 am followed by an 11 am match against St. Josephs.
