Fairfax, Va. After a successful freshman season, where she finished fourth in the 1500 meter run at the CAA Championship with a time of 4:26.69 and had a season and personal best time of 4:25.49 in this event at the NCAA East Preliminary round (which made her #3 on the Mason women's all-time list), Laura Sinclair is prepared to work off those accomplishments and be even better this year. GoMason.com recently caught up with Laura to ask her a few questions.
GoMason.com: What do you feel were some of your biggest accomplishments last year?
Sinclair: Finishing 10th at CAA Cross Country Championship was a great accomplishment. The team placed 3rd, which was a huge achievement as well. Making it to the 1500m finals at the NCAA Regionals and recording a personal record in the heats at the NCAA Regional's of 4:25 were also nice.
GoMason.com: What are your personal goals for this year?
Sinclair: For the cross country season, a top 5 finish in the CAA and a top 25 in the NCAA Regional's.
GoMason.com: What things do you feel you need to work on the most in order to improve your performance?
Sinclair: It would probably be my confidence in my ability. I need to work on believing in myself more.
GoMason.com: What does your typical offseason training involve?
Sinclair: Mostly base training. I do a lot of mileage with a few tempo runs, and fartlek type workouts.
GoMason.com: Who would you say you look up to the most?
Sinclair: I don't really have anybody I look up too. When I went to the NCAA Regionals and saw all the fantastic athletes there, it was very motivating. I admire their talent.
GoMason.com: Do you have any rituals you do before an event?
Sinclair: I do like to wear mason colored ribbons in my hair and my green sports bra, but I don't swear by it.
GoMason.com: What do you like to do in your free time?
Sinclair: Listen to music, cook, bake, spend time with my family, and play cards
GoMason.com: Do you have a certain song or group you listen to before an event?
Sinclair: I don't normally listen to music before a race, but if there is music playing over a loud speaker before the race, an upbeat song normally gets me going.
GoMason.com: How do you plan to use your major after you graduate?
Sinclair: I'm pursuing a degree in global and community health with a plan to become a dietician.
