The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its preseason polls for each of the nine regions of NCAA cross country on Monday. George Mason's men's team is ranked 9th and the women's team 12th in the Southeast Region to begin the 2010 season. Both teams being ranked to start the season is a first in Mason history. The men's team was ranked 14th in the 2009 preseason poll.
The Mason men's cross country team is one of three teams in the Colonial Athletic Association that are ranked. William and Mary is ranked 5th, while Delaware is ranked 13th in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
The women's team is one of four teams from the CAA that are ranked. James Madison is the highest ranked school in the CAA at 8th and William and Mary 14th, while Delaware is ranked 11th in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
The women's team opens their season at Mount St. Mary's in a dual meet on Friday, September 3 at 1 p.m. The men open at the James Madison Invitational at New Market Battlefield in New Market, Va. on Saturday, September 11.
