2010 IAAF World Junior Championships Schedule and Results

FAIRFAX, Va. - Rising sophomore David Verburg will compete among the best up-and-coming track athletes in the world as he was officially named to the Team USA roster in advance of the upcoming IAAF World Junior Championships, which will be held July 19-25 in Moncton, Canada.

Verburg, who finished third at the USATF Junior Nationals in the 400-meter dash (46.38), is virtually assured of a spot on the four-man 4x400-meter relay squad for the United States. Along with Verburg and the top two finishers from the June meet in Iowa, three other athletes round out the pool of athletes for the 4x400-meter relay.

"We are pleased with David's performance and that he will compete against the best in the world at his level," said director of track and field Andrew Gerard. "It is a great opportunity and very revealing to see the highest level of the sport among athletes his age; athletes that will compete at the World Championships and Olympic Games in six to eight years."

Verburg, who picked up the CAA Rookie of the Year award on June 29, won the 400 meters at the 2010 CAA Championship with a time of 46.27. He also was a member of George Mason's 4X400 relay team that finished first at the CAA Championship and was part of the Patriots' second-place 4X100 relay squad.

The Lynchburg, Va., native was an NCAA Regional qualifier in the 400 and finished 22nd overall (46.79) after advancing to the semifinals. He was also a member of Mason's 4X400 relay team that placed 10th at the NCAA Championship and captured the IC4A Championship. Earlier this year, Verburg earned All-America honors with a 7th-place finish in the 4X400 relay at the NCAA Indoor Championship.
