EUGENE, Ore. - Senior sprinter Tiara Swindell put the finishing touches on an outstanding career with the George Mason track and field team on Wednesday afternoon as she competed in the national semifinals of the women's 400-meter dash at Hayward Field.

Swindell, who was seeded 12th coming into the competition at the University of Oregon, competed in the last of three heats and clocked in with a time of 55.33. The time was nearly three seconds slower than her mark of 52.79 two weeks ago in Greensboro during the preliminary round, a quarterfinal time which earned her the spot in Oregon.

The top eight finishers, based on the first two from each heat and the next two times, will move on to the final round while Mason will be in action one more time. The men's 4x400-meter relay consisting of Kevin Wilson, David Verburg, Nick Vaughn and Ja-Vell Bullard is set to take the track tomorrow. The national semifinals of the men's 4x400-meter relay begins at 6:45 p.m. local time (9:45 p.m. EDT) on Thursday evening, with the finals set to close out the championships on Saturday afternoon at 11:50 a.m. local time (2:50 p.m. EDT).
