2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Central

The George Mason track and field team will be represented in two events as the best in the nation head to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Championships. Senior Tiara Swindell set to compete in the women's 400-meter dash, while the men's 4x400-meter relay will be among the field as the championships get underway on Wednesday.

Swindell will close out her collegiate career at the NCAA Championships after improving upon her personal best two weeks ago at the Preliminary Round. She crossed the line in 52.79, and after the top-three from each of the three heats were advanced, Swindell had the fastest at-large time. Mason nearly had two athletes in the event, as sophomore Cierra McGee finished one spot out of the top-12 to miss a chance to advance.

The national semifinals of the women's 400-meter dash are scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. Pacific time (8:15 pm EDT), while the finals will be contested at 6:32 p.m. local time on Friday (9:32 EDT). Swindell is seeded 13th out of the 24-woman field.

In men's action, the relay squad consisting of Kevin Wilson, David Verburg, Nick Vaughn and Ja-Vell Bullard will also compete at Hayward Field. The relay finished their final race in Greensboro with a time of 3:08.29, good for third place in the third heat and thus an automatic advancement to the next round. Among the field, Mason ranks 24th according to the seeded times.

The national semifinals of the men's 4x400-meter relay begins at 6:45 p.m. local time (9:45 p.m. EDT) on Thursday evening, with the finals set to close out the championships on Saturday afternoon at 11:50 a.m. local time (2:50 p.m. EDT).
