Charlottesville, VA ­--The George Mason golf team dropped to ninth place overall after today's final round of the Cavalier Classic. Mason shot a team 311 on the par 72 course to fall from tied for 5th after the first round to finish tied for ninth in the 11-team tournament.
Greg Brouse carded the lowest Patriots score of the day, a four-over par 76. In the two-day tournament Silas Vansky led Mason with a 151 in the 36-hole tournament and finished 23rd overall.
Virginia sophomore Ben Kohles won his third individual title this season to lead the 19th-ranked Virginia men's golf team to the championship of the 2010 Cavalier Classic. It marks the seventh time in the 23-year history of the tournament Virginia has placed first at its annual home tournament.
Virginia won the tournament by 20 shots after holding a six-shot
lead following Saturday¹s opening round. The Cavaliers shot 4-under 284
Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 1-under 575. Seton Hall was second
at 19-over 595. Longwood was third at 599, Liberty was fourth at 600 and NC
State was fifth at 601.
The Cavalier Classic is Mason's final tournament of the regular season.
