Box Score

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team combined to pitch a shutout and a sixth-inning scoring outburst led the Patriots to a 9-0 win over George Washington in Mason's home finale Wednesday at the Mason Softball Complex.

The win pushed the Patriots' record to 17-22 on the season, including a final non-conference record of 12-12. Additionally, the win closes out Mason's record at home to 14-16. GW fell to 5-36 on the season.

Sophomore Rachael Davies gave Mason the decisive hit in the sixth as, leading 6-0 and with the bases loaded, she lined a double into right-center field. The three plated runs made the score 9-0 which induced the run-rule victory. Mason had scored four runs already in the frame, on three bases-loaded free passes issued as well as a RBI fielder's choice by sophomore Alyssa See in which junior Kara Weiner slid into home beating the tag.

Mason began its scoring in the third inning, as sophomore Tori Dudley blasted her fourth career home run and first of the year, clearing the centerfield wall for two runs, as Weiner had earned a one-out walk two batters prior.

GW advanced just one runner into scoring position all game, as a pair of walks in the first inning put two runners on with two outs. That would be the Colonials' best and final scoring chance, as sophomore Miranda Cranford, freshman Amanda Buffington (3-2) and senior Becky Anderson combined to allow just two hits for the game.

Davies, along with freshman Megan Blank, posted two hits to lead the Mason offense. Amanda Holst and Tara Fogarty each recorded base hits for the Colonials.

Mason will be back in action when it travels to UNC Wilmington this weekend, squaring off with the Seahawks in a crucial three-game Colonial Athletic Association series. Both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's series finale begin at noon.
