George Mason Rowing Team Adds Two New Assistant Coaches

Mason Rowing Finishes Fourth at CAA Championships

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. (April 25, 2010) - The George Mason women's rowing team finished fourth at the CAA Rowing Championship held today at Sandy Run Regional Park on the Occoquan Reservoir. Two Mason rowers, junior Maureen McAuliffe (Herndon, Va) and senior Charlotte Morris (Ridgefield, Conn), earned All-CAA honors.

Mason improved on their fifth-place finish in last year's CAA Championship finishing with four more points with 17 total. The Patriots finished fifth in the first race of the day, Varsity 4 with a time of 7:53.0 a few seconds behind Drexel ( 7:46.2). The Green and Gold placed fourth in 2nd Varsity 8, and in an exciting finish the Patriots (6:49.4) edged out Delaware (6:49.5) for fourth place in Varsity 8.

The University at Buffalo captured its first CAA Women's Rowing championship, edging out defending-champion Northeastern by a single point. Buffalo won the championship with 33 points, one point ahead of Northeastern (32). Drexel was third with 23 points, followed by George Mason with 17 points. Delaware (13) and Old Dominion (8) rounded out the field.

The Bulls won the Varsity 4 race with a time of 7:30.3 and the Second Varsity 8 in 6:43.2. Buffalo's second-place finish in the Varsity 8 event clinched the championship over NU.

Northeastern finished first in the Varsity 8 race, while being runner-up in the Second Varsity 8 and third in the Varsity 4. Drexel took third in both Varsity 8 races and fourth in the Varsity 4.

Four Buffalo rowers headlined the All-CAA first team following the championship. Kate Garofalo, Brit Ronald, Tara Rudkoski, and Cathleen Streicher earned All-CAA status. Joining them were Regine Adrien (Delaware), Jen Forbes (Northeastern), Dana Haneman (Drexel), Maureen McAuliffe (Mason), Charlotte Morris (Mason), Veronica Townsend (Northeastern), Abby Voss (Old Dominion), Katie Ward (Northeastern), and Candice Webb (Drexel).

In a vote by the league's coaches, Buffalo head coach Rudy Wieler was named the CAA Coach of the Year.
