The George Mason golf team stands in eighth place after the first round of the
34th Rutherford Intercollegiate golf tournament, hosted by Penn State. Mason carded a team 308 on the par 71, 7,202 course in the 14-team tournament.
The Patriots Casey Thompson and Silas Vansky each scored four-over par 75s and go into round two tied for 16th overall. Andrew Horrocks finished round one tied for 31st with a (38-39=77).
The Penn State men's golf team created a 7-stroke cushion to complete the first round atop the leaderboard. The Nittany Lions fired a 291 opening round to place ahead of second-place team Ohio University, 298.
Due to darkness, the second round was suspended at 7:21 p.m. and will be completed at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning. With the conclusion of the second round tomorrow morning there will be an hour break to re-pair the participants. Following the re-pairing, groups will proceed with the third round at roughly 10:00 a.m. in a shotgun format.
