George Mason opened the CAA Men's Golf Championship in ninth place after the first 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament hosted by The Homestead. All 11 teams opened play on the 6, 679-yard par 70 Cascades Course.
Mason was led by Greg Brouse after shooting a four-over par 74 and is tied for 13th overall. Josh Apple stands in 20th after shooting a 75 for the Patriots. Junior Marshall Tinsley, who was named to the All-CAA Second Team finished with a 79.
Towson sits in first after shooting a three-over par on day one. The Tigers were led by John Duthie, who carded a 68 (-2), after the first round. VCU follows on the team leader board with a score of 290 (+10) in second place, while William & Mary enters the second round in third place after recording 292 (+12) on Day 1. Georgia State wraps up the top four teams after carding a team score of 296 (+16).
Delaware (301), which sits in fifth place, is followed by a trio tied at sixth in Old Dominion, UNC Wilmington and James Madison. The three tied teams carded a score of 304 in the opening 18. George Mason (308), Drexel (309) and Hofstra (331) round out the scoring on the Cascades Course.
