Box Score

FAIRFAX, Va. - After playing its past three games on the road, George Mason returned home on Friday afternoon to take on No. 16 Hofstra in a Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse game at George Mason Stadium. The Pride outscored the Patriots by three goals in the first half and that turned out to be the final margin of victory in a 12-9 loss for Mason.

Hofstra (9-3, 3-0 CAA) scored the first two goals of the game and went on to take a 5-2 lead with 19:32 remaining in the first half following back-to-back goals by senior Liz Falco. George Mason (3-10, 0-3 CAA) cut the deficit to a goal with 12:13 left in the half when junior Callie Hoyt scored twice within a span of 21 seconds. Junior attacker Madalyn Jamison assisted on both scores. The Pride scored the final two goals of the half to regain a three-goal advantage at the break.

The Patriots closed to within a goal with 12:39 remaining in the second half when Jamison's free-position shot found the back of the net past Hofstra goalkeeper Jackie Pandolph. Pandolph replaced starter Mary Cuddihy midway through the second half.

After Jamison's goal, the Patriots were unable to score again. Senior K'Leigh Vanaman netted the final two goals of the game for the Pride to account for the final margin of victory. Vanaman scored with 11:05 remaining to push the lead to two, and she netted the final goal of the game with 5:17 left.

Jamison scored three goals and added three assists for a game-high six points. Hoyt scored twice for the Patriots. Sophomore Emily Ellisen finished with a goal, an assist, three caused turnovers and four ground balls in the game. Goalkeeper Sara Longobucco recorded 10 saves in 60 minutes of action.

Senior Corrine Gandolfi scored three goals and added two assists for a total of five points. Vanaman scored three goals and added three ground balls and four draw controls. Falco and Stephanie Rice both scored twice for the Pride. Falco also tallied two assists in the game.

George Mason returns to the field on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Drexel. The Patriots will wear special uniforms designed by Under Armour in Sunday's game to support the company's Power in Pink initiative, which is designed to pay tribute to women everywhere who are fighting breast cancer.

The first 150 fans through the gate on Sunday will receive a pink George Mason hat. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game to support breast cancer awareness. In addition to the Power in Pink festivities, Sunday's game is also Women's Lacrosse Alumnae Day. All returning women's lacrosse alumnae will be recognized at halftime of the game.

Regularly-priced individual tickets to women's lacrosse games cost $5 for adults and $2 for youth, senior citizens and George Mason University faculty and staff. All full-time enrolled students at George Mason University will be admitted free with a valid Mason student ID. Tickets will be available for purchase at the entrance to George Mason Stadium one hour prior to the start of the game.
