WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sophomore Kristen Meier began her competition at the 2010 NCAA Women's Diving Championships on Thursday afternoon as she placed 35th in the preliminary round of the 1-meter competition at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
Meier scored a total of 239.15 points in her six dives, as she became the second Mason diver to ever advance to the national championships.
The Walden, N.Y., native has more work to do this weekend as she will take part in the 3-meter dive on Friday, with the preliminary round set to begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday will also see the start of competition for Mason sophomore Ashley Danner, who will compete for the national title in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley this week in Indiana.
