The snowstorm that has hit the New York area has impacted the George Mason baseball team. The Army Black Knights, Mason's scheduled opponent on the field this weekend has been snowed in and as a result, the Patriots series with Army, to be played in Durham, N.C., has been canceled. Instead, Mason will travel to Christopher Newport where the Patriots will play a three-game series with Georgetown. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m., a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning game, and a game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Mason was originally supposed to face Monmouth this weekend in a three-game set at Spuhler Field. But the field conditions in Fairfax forced the series to be canceled. Army stepped in and the Patriots and Black Knights were set to play three games at Durham Athletic Park. Now with both Mason and Georgetown having holes in their schedules, the teams will face off three times over the weekend. The Hoyas were originally scheduled to play NYIT three times at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md. Mason and Georgetown also have a pair of mid-week games scheduled for later this season.

Also being postponed is Mason's home game against UMBC, originally scheduled for next Wednesday, March 3. That game will now be played on Tuesday, March 31 at Spuhler Field at 3 p.m.
