Fairfax, Va. - Cayle Byers
became the highest ranked wrestler Mason has ever had when Wrestling Amateur News released
their latest rankings yesterday. Byers
is listed as second in the 197 pound weight class, behind Cam Simaz of
Cornell. Simaz is the wrestler who ended
Byers' perfect record last week at the Southern Scuffle.
Byers
owns a record of 16-1 on the year with his only loss coming in a tight match against
Simaz (who was #2 nationally ranked at the time), where he ultimately lost in a
5-4 decision. On his way to the
championship round at the Southern Scuffle, Byers defeated the number one ranked
wrestler (Dustin Kilgore, Kent State) in the 197 weight class in a 9-4
decision.
Byers is currently ranked in a number of other
rankings in the 197 weight class. He is 4th according to W.I.N Magazine,
4th in Intermat and 3rd in The Open Mat and WrestlingReport.com.
Byers
and the Patriots will be hosting the UNC Greensboro Spartans tonight at the
RAC. The dual meet is set to begin at 7
p.m.
